If you only read the site
We do not use advertising, analytics or tracking cookies. Your browser keeps two things locally, on your device only: your colour theme and the sizes you pinned to Compare. Our host keeps standard web server logs (address, time, page) for security, for a short period set by the host.
If you contribute
- Account: your email address, the display name and optional organisation you choose, the categories you list as expertise, your email preferences, when you accepted the contributor agreement, and when you last signed in. Your email is never shown publicly.
- Submissions: the values, the source link or evidence file, your notes, and the moderator's decision and note. These are part of the public record: approved values are published, credited to your display name unless you turn credit off.
- Evidence photos and documents: stored on our server, outside the public web folder. We remove location, camera and other hidden metadata from photos before storing them. A file becomes public once a value citing it is approved.
- Anonymous submissions: the email address, if you give one, is used only for a moderator's question or, if you ask, to tell you the outcome.
- Moderator applications: what you write in the form, read only by the site owner.
Security and abuse protection
- Cookies: signing in sets two cookies.
tr_sessionkeeps you signed in; it cannot be read by page scripts, and lasts up to 30 days (12 hours for moderators and the owner).tr_hintonly tells the page you are signed in and holds no personal data. Signing out clears both. - Addresses: we never store your IP address. For rate limits we store a one-way hash of it for two days.
- Cloudflare Turnstile: forms used without signing in, and the sign-in form, use Turnstile to tell people from bots. Cloudflare processes your browser's signals for that check under its own privacy policy.
- Email: sign-in links and notifications are sent from our own mailbox. Unused sign-in links are deleted within a day.
How long we keep it
Account data while your account exists. Submissions and their review history are kept as the record of where each published value came from. Read notifications are deleted after a year. Database backups are kept for 30 days.
Your choices
You can change your display name, organisation, credit and email preferences in your profile at any time. To get a copy of your data, close your account, or replace your name on past contributions with "A contributor", email corrections@tyersreference.com. Published values stay in the database under its licence, without your name if you ask.
