Methodology
Every measured value comes from a page about that exact product and size — the manufacturer's own spec table where one exists, otherwise a retailer that publishes a per-size table (e.g. mistpool.com for hooks). The source is linked on every item.
We never estimate, interpolate between sizes, or copy numbers from a "similar" model. If no source publishes a number, the field is blank.
Verification levels
Every value links to the page it was read from. How much weight it carries depends on who published that page:
- Verified: manufacturer. Read from the brand's own site or its parent company's. Industry data always takes precedence over everything else.
- Community verified. An independent measurement by fly tiers, such as flyhooks.org caliper readings, or a reviewed community submission with evidence. Shown when no manufacturer value exists.
- Unverified: distributor or retailer page. A shop or distributor table that names the exact product and size. Cited, but not verified until the manufacturer's page confirms it.
- Unverified: no source yet. The size or variant is known to exist, but no page publishing its specs has been found.
Know a value, or spot a wrong one? Every field has a ? next to it. It opens an email to corrections@tyersref.com that already names the exact product, size and field. A link to the manufacturer's page is the fastest way to get a value verified.
Hook gape
Manufacturer tables give the inside gap. flyhooks.org caliper photos measure outside-to-outside, which reads roughly one wire diameter larger. Where both exist we show the table value and list the caliper value as an alternate.
Fly line weights
Head weights are as the maker publishes them: some brands give the AFFTA 30-ft weight, others the full head. The source note on each line says which.
